Into the Woods
At the heart of every great space is a story — one that begins with a conversation and takes shape in the details. At Mortice & Tenon, we step “into the woods” with our clients — architects, interior designers, and discerning homeowners — to guide them through the creative and technical journey of bespoke joinery.
From selecting the perfect veneer to choosing paint colours, grain directions, and cut patterns, we collaborate closely to ensure every element aligns with the vision. We speak the language of both design and craftsmanship, translating ideas into precise instructions for the furniture maker and installer.
The result is more than joinery. It’s clarity in process, excellence in execution, and a shared sense of pride in what’s built.

Redcliffe Square, London – Seamless Joinery in a Heritage Setting
In the heart of Chelsea’s Redcliffe Square, where historic façades and garden squares define one of London’s most elegant postcodes, we completed the installation of a bespoke kitchen that reflects the refined character of its surroundings.
The joinery was designed with meticulous attention to proportion, materiality and finish. At its core, the kitchen featured an in-built bulkhead – a subtle architectural gesture that helped anchor the cabinetry within the room. To elevate the finish, we introduced a shadow gap detail between the joinery and the wall, creating a clean, uninterrupted line that allowed the units to feel integrated, almost architectural. This technique enhances the sense of precision and gives the illusion of the cabinetry floating effortlessly within the space – a hallmark of truly seamless installation.
Redcliffe Square itself is a sought-after address, known for its Victorian garden square layout, period stucco buildings, and proximity to Chelsea, South Kensington and Earl’s Court. It offers a rare blend of grandeur and tranquillity in central London, making it a fitting canvas for timeless, considered interiors.

Howards Lane, Putney – A Quiet Corner for Books and Balance
Tucked into a family home on Howards Lane, Putney, we created a calm and considered library corner — a bespoke joinery piece that brings both order and softness to the space.
Crafted from painted MDF and finished in timeless Farrow & Ball colours, the design balances clean lines with warm tones to create an inviting moment of pause. Open shelving offers space for books, objects and art, while low-level cabinetry provides discreet storage. Every junction was considered, with shadow lines and chamfered edges adding a sense of depth and definition.
This understated composition is more than functional; it invites stillness and serves as a quiet counterpoint to the energy of family life.
Howards Lane, nestled in leafy Putney, offers a rare blend of suburban calm and city connectivity. With the Thames nearby and Richmond Park not far beyond, it's an area known for its village feel, good schools and access to green space — a fitting backdrop for a home that values both form and feeling.

Cavendish Street, Marylebone – A Kitchen Crafted to Disappear Beautifully
In a refined Marylebone residence on Cavendish Street, we created a kitchen that doesn’t shout — it fits. Designed to sit precisely within a wall-to-wall niche, the joinery was made bespoke to the millimetre, achieving a seamless integration that feels more architectural than decorative.
A unique textured splashback brought subtle depth and interest to the scheme, providing a tactile contrast to the otherwise sleek surfaces and acting as a focal point in an intentionally understated space.
Marylebone is known for its restrained elegance — where Georgian terraces meet considered modern living. Cavendish Street exemplifies this spirit, making it the perfect location for a kitchen that reflects craftsmanship, quiet confidence, and tailored precision.
